Hi @gregella2024,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your system is experiencing some critical issues. If Device Manager won't load and your audio isn't working, the problem might stem from corrupted system files, a disabled service, or even a deeper issue with the operating system.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this:

Check for Corrupted System Files

Run the System File Checker (SFC) and DISM to repair system files:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

  • Press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter.

Run these commands one at a time:

sfc /scannow

Wait for it to complete, then run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Restart your computer after these commands.

Check Services

Ensure the Plug and Play service (responsible for Device Manager) is running:

  1. Open Run (Windows + R), type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Look for Plug and Play in the list.
  3. Right-click it, select Properties, and ensure:
    • Startup type is set to Automatic.
    • The service is Running (if not, click Start).

Attempt Safe Mode

Check if Device Manager opens in Safe Mode:

  1. Restart your computer and repeatedly press F8 or hold Shift while clicking Restart.
  2. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Choose 4: Enable Safe Mode.
  4. Try accessing Device Manager in Safe Mode.

Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

Use the HP Support Assistant or Windows Update to download and reinstall drivers.

  • Alternatively, visit the official HP Drivers and Software page.

If you're unable to use Device Manager:

  • Download the driver directly from HP's website on another device.
  • Transfer it via USB and run the installer.

Use a Recovery Option

If the issue persists, you may need to reset or repair your system:

System Restore: Restore your system to a point before the issue began.

  1. Open Run (Windows + R), type rstrui, and press Enter.
  2. Follow the instructions to restore.

Reset Windows: If none of the above works, reset your system.

  1. Open Settings (Windows + I), go to Update & Security > Recovery.
  2. Under Reset this PC, click Get Started.

Check for Malware

A virus or malware could cause Device Manager not to open. Perform a full system scan using:

  • Windows Defender (built-in).
  • A third-party antivirus tool like Malwarebytes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
