Hi @dyromance

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when DTS Audio Control doesn’t open properly and the sound plays through both speakers and headphones at the same time. Thank you for already checking for driver updates.

Let’s go through a clear set of steps together to help restore proper audio behavior.

Step 1: Check Default Playback Device

  • Right‑click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
  • Under Choose where to play sound, select Headphones when they are plugged in.
  • Confirm that only headphones are set as the active device.

Step 2: Disable “Stereo Mix” or Secondary Outputs

  • In Sound settings, scroll to Advanced > More sound settings.
  • Go to the Playback tab.
  • Right‑click on Speakers and select Disable while headphones are connected.
  • This ensures audio routes only to headphones.

Step 3: Reinstall DTS Audio Control

  • Open Apps & Features in Windows settings.
  • Locate DTS Audio Control and uninstall it.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Download and reinstall the DTS Audio Control package from HP’s support page for your model.

Step 4: Update Audio Drivers

  • Go to HP’s support page for your laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest Realtek High Definition Audio driver.
  • Restart the system and check if DTS Audio Control opens correctly.

Step 5: Test with HP App

  • Install the HP App on your Windows device.
  • Add your laptop and run the audio diagnostics.
  • This will confirm whether the headphone jack is being detected properly.

Step 6: Verify DTS Settings

  • Once DTS Audio Control opens, go to Device Settings.
  • Select Headphones as the output device.
  • Apply the audio profile and test playback.

By following these steps, you can ensure that DTS Audio Control is reinstalled correctly, the drivers are up to date, and the playback device is set properly. Starting with setting the default playback device usually clears the issue of audio playing through both speakers and headphones.
