Hi @Seal17

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your microphone has stopped working on your computer, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to fix the issue:

1. Check Physical Connections

  • Wired Mic: If you're using a wired microphone, ensure it is properly connected to the correct audio jack.
  • USB Mic: If it’s a USB microphone, try unplugging it and plugging it back in, or try a different USB port.

2. Check Sound Settings

  1. Right-click the Sound Icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Recording tab.
  3. Ensure your microphone is listed and set as the default device.
  4. Right-click on your microphone and select Properties. Under the Levels tab, make sure the microphone volume is turned up and not muted.

3. Check Privacy Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  2. Ensure that microphone access is enabled for your device and for the apps you want to use (like streaming software).

4. Update Audio Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it.
  2. Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
  3. Right-click your microphone and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

5. Run Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Additional troubleshooters.
  3. Find and run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.

6. Check Streaming Software Settings

  • Open your streaming software (like OBS, Streamlabs, etc.) and check the audio settings:
    • Ensure the correct microphone is selected as the input device.
    • Check the audio levels to ensure it's not muted or too low.

7. Restart Computer

  • Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve temporary issues with audio devices.

8. Test with Another Application

  • Try using your microphone with another application (like Voice Recorder or a different streaming platform) to see if it’s a software-specific issue.

9. Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • If the issue persists, you can uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers:
    1. In Device Manager, right-click on the audio driver and select Uninstall device.
    2. Restart your computer, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

10. Check for Hardware Issues

  • If possible, test the microphone on another device to ensure it’s functioning properly. If it doesn’t work elsewhere, the microphone itself may be faulty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
