Hi guys,
I have a HP ENvy x360 and from time to time I face this issue.
When I turn on my laptop the sound is OK. And after a while or if I close down the screen my sound is completly gone. In the bottom right corner the sound icon is with a red X and says: "No Audio Output Device Installed". But looking at device manager all seems to work correctly:
Any idea what can cause this?
A restart solves the problem but I do not want to restart the device every hour or so...
thx,
T

@Tamas_Vago and @DavidW5
Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have an HP Envy x360 series laptop and are facing audio issues. Initially, the sound seems to be okay. But later, there is no sound output from the laptop. The speaker icon as the message saying "No Audio Output Device Installed". Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:
- Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
- Did any software changes take place on the laptop recently?
- Have you tried to reinstall the audio drivers?
Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Power off the laptop.
- Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
- Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
- Power ON the laptop.
If the issue persists then let us install the audio drivers and reinstall them. The following steps will help:
- Open the device manager.
- Right click on the audio drivers and select uninstall.
- Please download and install the audio drivers from this link: www.hp.com/drivers
- You may restart the laptop after the audio driver are installed successfully.
Also, you may perform a BIOS update on the laptop if the issue persists. Use the same link (www.hp.com/drivers) to locate the BIOS update.
I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please feel free to keep me posted. All the best! 🙂

hi MKazi,
- Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
Product number is W2K45UA#ABA - Did any software changes take place on the laptop recently?
Only software updates from HP support assisstant (incl. sound driver) but did not solve the issue - Have you tried to reinstall the audio drivers?
I have updated it to the latest version with HP Support Assistant but no change. Current version is 9.0.140.1
My laptop has a non-removable battery. I try the 15-sec-turn off thing and see if it works.

HI Mkazi,
Re-installed the driver from your link - but the issue still exist. It is very random, sometimes (like now) after 20 minutes, sometimes after 1-2 hours but it always drops the driver 😞
Any suggestion?

Hi,
You could perform a Microsoft Push-Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.
Let me know how this pans out. Cheers!
