hi all! i recently got a new HP Victus 15-fb2000 with Windows 11 24H2 and have been having issues with the sound quality on the bluetooth connection ever since

when i connect to my bluetooth speaker, there is a harsh static/crackling noise whenever audio is playing. when i plug my wired headseat into the audio jack, the sound quality is perfect, so i think the bluetooth has to be the issue here. my speaker has never had this issue before, so the problem has to be with the laptop.

what i have tried so far is:

- checking the audio/bluetooth drivers for updates

- uninstalling the audio/bluetooth drivers and installing directly from HP's website

- checking for windows updates

- running the bluetooth troubleshooter

- disabling all speaker enhancements

- disabling spatial sound

- disabling exclusive mode

- setting the speaker as the primary output device

- turning off wi-fi

- disabling other sound and bluetooth devices through device manager

- turning off link state power management under PCI Express

- setting all processor states to 100%

- disabling the computer's power management abilities for all USB ports

- updating BIOS

- disabling the "Remotely Controllable Device" service setting

and more.

so far none of these have worked for me unfortunately. what else can i do?

@jxxz, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Try a Different Codec

Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Right-click your Bluetooth speaker > Properties > Advanced tab.

Change the audio quality or codec (try 44.1kHz instead of 48kHz).

Reset Bluetooth

In Device Manager, right-click your Bluetooth adapter under Bluetooth > Uninstall device > Restart.

Windows will reinstall the Bluetooth driver.

Turn Off Bluetooth Power Saving

In Device Manager, right-click your Bluetooth adapter > Properties > Power Management > Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Test with Another Bluetooth Device

Try a different Bluetooth speaker or headphones to see if the issue is with the speaker or the laptop.

Test with a New User Account

Create a new user account in Settings and see if the issue happens there.

Reinstall Bluetooth Driver in Compatibility Mode

Download the Bluetooth driver from HP’s site > Right-click the installer > Properties > Compatibility > Run it for Windows 10.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

okay, i couldn't find the advanced tab under properties, but i was actually able to change the audio codec by disabling AAC through the registry editor.

i looked at the compatibility mode for the driver installer, but windows 10 was not an option. the only options available were windows 7, 8, and vista, so i didn't run it.

i tested it with a different account and could still hear static, but it was oddly quieter than usual. i tried the other steps as well, but was not able to find a fix yet unfortunately.
