unwanted sound all of a sudden at a very loud volume from an unknown source

all of a sudden, very loud noise comes from my speakers (music, someone talking, etc...) from an unknown source. 

I have to shut my computer off in order to get rid of the noise. I can't even turn down the volume. It's playing a max volume and it won't mute or turn down.
