HP All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cb1000i (4N1Q9AV)

The HP AIO I purchased late last summer (received in August 2023) has once again failed to start up.  This happened a few months ago (2 months after my 1 year warranty expired) and I was eventually able to recover it, but it's happened again and I can't get it working.  The power indicator on the back of the AIO is on, but it will not boot up.  If I hold the power button for 15 seconds or so, the power indicator light on the front does comes on and a fan comes on, but as soon as I let go of the power button, it just goes black again.  I've been trying to reach an HP agent on chat but so far, no luck (says it's passing my answers to live agent but so far, no response).  Hoping someone in the Community can help point me in the right direction.

Hi @loganmartingal,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP All-in-One Desktop is experiencing a persistent power or motherboard-related issue. Since the device's warranty has expired, but the problem has recurred shortly after, troubleshooting options can help narrow down the problem or provide a temporary fix. Here are some steps to try.

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Disconnect all peripherals (external drives, USB devices, etc.).
  2. Unplug the desktop from the power outlet.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reconnect only the power cable and attempt to power on.

Test a Different Power Outlet and Cable

  • Ensure the power cable is securely connected.
  • Try a different electrical outlet to rule out outlet issues.
  • If available, use another compatible power cord to eliminate cord-related issues.

Check for BIOS Recovery

  1. Press and hold the Windows key + B and then press the power button for 2-3 seconds while holding the keys.
  2. Release the power button (but keep holding Windows + B) until you hear beeps or the screen lights up.
  3. Follow any on-screen instructions to attempt a BIOS recovery.

Test Boot with Minimal Components

  • Disconnect all accessories and internal storage if possible (e.g., additional drives).
  • If the system responds differently (lights or fans stay on), the issue could be related to a connected component.

Investigate Hardware Issues

  • The fact that the power indicator comes on briefly suggests potential issues with:
    • The motherboard or power supply unit (PSU).
    • The power button assembly or connector.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
