Hi, Shon:

Is that a HP dc7600 you have?

If so, you probably have to update the processor microcode or update the BIOS.

Here is how you update the Microcode on your HP dc7600, which hopefully will add support for the Pentium 4 630...

You will need a USB flash drive for this project.

I have zipped up and attached three files below...

The first file (sp27608) is an old HP USB formatting tool which will make the USB flash drive bootable.

It needs to be run on Windows XP; I believe.

But you can try it on whatever OS you are running.

Unzip and run the file to make your USB flash drive bootable.

The next zip file contains DOS command files.

Unzip the file to its folder and copy the file contents of the folder to your bootable USB flash drive.

The last file (sp33313) is the actual dc7600 microcode update, which is found on the XP driver section of the dc7600 support page.

Unzip this file and copy just the file contents of the DOS flash folder inside sp33313, to your USB flash drive.

Now you boot from the USB flash drive to update the microcode.

After the PC boots from the flash drive, you should arrive at a DOS command prompt.

At the command prompt type Flashbin.exe and press the enter key.

Then follow the on-screen instructions to update the Microcode to version 1.11.

The latest BIOS update (v1.61) can be found at the link below.

It is good for either the dc7600 CMT or SFF:

Don't run it.  Just save the file.  On some operating systems it may not run anyway.

Driver - HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor PC | HP® Customer Support

You can run this update outside of Windows.

Download and install this free file utility.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-zip, right click on the downloaded BIOS file and select 7-zip from the list of options.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the files into the name of the folder.

Now you see all the extracted files in the folder.

The files you want are the ones listed in the folder labeled DOS Flash.

Format a USB flash drive with the FAT 32 file system.

Copy the file contents (not the whole folder) of the DOS Flash folder to the formatted USB flash drive.

Shut down the PC and insert the flash drive in a USB port.

Turn on the PC and tap the F10 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to access the BIOS.

Go to the File menu...You will see a command called Flash System ROM.

Select that command, and then select USB flash drive.

You will now see the BIOS file contents of your USB flash drive.

Follow the prompts to update the BIOS.

Make sure you only have the keyboard, mouse, monitor and that USB flash drive connected to the PC when you do this procedure.

Here is the link to the service reference card for your model and it has the location of the BIOS setup menu commands.

Thank you so much for your answer.

Indeed, I have a HP dc7600 with windows XP pro.

I have read your precise answer. I'm a bit lost with the first stept and the first file (sp27608). Maybe because  I'm used to program as Etcher to flash from a file.

If I read how to use sp27608, I have3 possibilities :

1) DOS Flash - DOS utility that can be used locally or with a Preboot eXecution
Environment (PXE) management application to update or restore the system BIOS.

2) HPQFlash - Windows-based utility to locally update or restore the system BIOS on
individual PCs through the Windows environment.

3) BIOS CD - Creates a CD image that can be used to locally restore or update
the system BIOS through F10 setup or BootBlock Emergency Recovery Mode.

I guess I will use the DOS flash method ? But I don't see precisely how.

You're very welcome.

Since you are running XP, you can use the Windows based flash to update the BIOS to v1.61.

I still prefer to do it with a USB flash drive and the BIOS command.

You do not need to make a bootable USB flash drive with the BIOS update.

You only need to make a bootable flash drive if you want to update the processor microcode.

sp27608 is only needed to make the flash drive bootable for the microcode update process.

Ok, this is clearer for me now.

To update the BIOS I need a password I don't have, unfortunately.
Will I need the BIOS password too if I choose the microcode update process ?

I doubt you can do anything then.

Read the troubleshooting guide Appendix B, page 62 and see if that takes care of that issue.
