Hello i’ve recently stumbled upon our family pc from 2007 an HP Pavillon a6230n to be exact. When trying to turn it on nothing happens and the green light on the back just flickers. I’ve changed the power cord for a working one so that’s not the problem. Could it possibly be the power supply? I don’t want to buy a new one unless i’m sure that that is the problem but i really do hope to restore this pc.

From what I can gather, that PC uses a standard power supply that is inside the case. The flickering green light is next to the on-off button, correct, with the power cord input in that area, too?
If that is the situation, then either the power supply is defective or there is a hardware failure causing a power supply overload.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet. You can then open the case and disconnect the 20pin connector to the motherboard and then plug the power cord back in. If the green light is on steady, then press the start button. It will probably start beeping and will not start, but that means the power supply could be OK. If so, then proceed. Reconnect the 20pin motherboard connector but disconnect power leads to the DVD/CD drive and anything else connected, including removing a graphics card, if present. If removing the graphics card, connect the monitor to the VGA output that is on the case. If the green light is still on steady, then press the start button.
It most likely will now start. If not, post back with what has transpired. - outcome of each step of the testing.
