Microsoft Windows 11

Everytime I turn on my Omen 40l pc, there is this random glitching after turning it on for 20 minutes, when I am playing games such as, Valorant, League of Legends, Rust, or even OSU which shouldn’t take up a lot of CPU or GPU to run, there is a constant glitch that always makes the frames drop to 15-20fps which catches me off guard and annoys me every time, just woundering how to fix it and make it go away or if every omen PC I’d like that.

Check Power Settings

  • Power Plan: Make sure your PC is set to "High Performance" mode in the Windows power settings. You can find this in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.

Check for System Errors

  • Event Viewer: Open the Event Viewer and look for any critical errors or warnings that occur around the time of the FPS drops. This can provide clues about what might be causing the issue.

Check Hardware Integrity

  • RAM: Run a memory diagnostic test to ensure your RAM is functioning properly. You can use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool or MemTest86.
  • Storage: Check the health of your SSD/HDD using tools like CrystalDiskInfo to ensure there are no issues with your storage drives.

Reinstall Windows

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider backing up your data and performing a clean installation of Windows. This can help eliminate any software-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Donnykun02,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Omen 40L PC is experiencing performance issues that could be related to several factors, including hardware, software, or thermal management problems. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Update Drivers and BIOS

  • Graphics Driver: Ensure that your graphics card driver is up to date. You can download the latest driver from the NVIDIA or AMD website, depending on your GPU.
  • Chipset Drivers: Update your motherboard chipset drivers from the HP support website.
  • BIOS: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your system on the HP support website and follow the instructions to update it.

Check for Overheating

  • Temperature Monitoring: Use software like HWMonitor, MSI Afterburner, or SpeedFan to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures. High temperatures can cause thermal throttling, leading to performance drops.
  • Cooling System: Ensure that your cooling system (fans, liquid cooling, etc.) is working properly. Clean any dust from the fans and heatsinks.
  • Thermal Paste: If your PC is older, consider reapplying thermal paste to the CPU and GPU.

Check for Malware and Background Processes

  • Malware Scan: Run a full system scan with a trusted antivirus program to ensure there are no malware or viruses affecting your system's performance.
  • Task Manager: Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any background processes that might be consuming CPU or GPU resources. Close any unnecessary applications.

Game Settings and Optimization

  • In-Game Settings: Lower the graphical settings in the games you're playing to see if that helps stabilize the FPS.
  • Game Mode: Ensure that Windows Game Mode is enabled. You can find this in the Windows Settings under "Gaming."
