Solved!

5 Beeps after installing new RAM HP Z840

HP Recommended
Z840
Ubuntu LTS

Hello HP Community,

I have a working HP Z840.  I went to install some new RAM and now I am getting no start and 5 beeps.  After pulling the RAM I have 4 sticks of 8GB 1Rx8 PC4-2400T-RD1-11 and 12 sticks of 8GB 1Rx4 PC4-2133P-RC0-10.  I would think these are compatible?  Any thoughts on why I am getting no boot with these sticks?

Thank you!

hi

likely incompatible

4GB DDR4-2133 ECC Registered RAM
8GB DDR4-2133 ECC Registered RAM
16GB DDR4-2133 ECC Registered RAM
32GB DDR4-2133 ECC Load Reduced (LR) RAM
note:
Identical memory components are used to build the CTO configurations as are available as After Market Options (AMO). The AMO Option Kit Part # are shown alongside the memory DIMMs.
For details on the supported memory configurations on the HP Z840 Workstation, please refer to the System Technical Specifications - System Board section of this document.
DIMMs should be equally distributed across all four memory channels for optimal performance.
Each processor supports up to 4 channels of DDR4 memory. To realize full performance at least 1 DIMM must be inserted into each channel.
The CPUs determine the speed at which the memory is clocked. For example, if a 1600MHz capable CPU is used in the system, the maximum speed the memory will run at is 1600MHz regardless of the specified speed of the memory.
You cannot intermix LR DIMMs with Registered DIMMs. The system will not work.
Maximum memory capacities assume Windows 64-bit operating systems or Linux. With Windows 32-bit operating
systems, memory above 3 GB may not all be available due to system resources.

The 2400 RAM does work when used alone.  Surprising to me that they are not compatible together.
