Product: HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor PC (ENERGY STAR)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor PC. When I turn it on, the monitor remains blank and is starts beeping 5 times. Is the memory or motherboard faulty?

Unfortunately, there would be no way to tell offhand as it could be either.

 

I recommend you refer to the troubleshooting guide at the link below, Appendix A, page 58 for how to troubleshoot the 5 beep code error.
