HP Compaq 8200 Elite Base Model Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

when I try to boot systems on both of my 8200 computers I get 5 beeps then have to wait minimum of 4 or 5 hours to to get normal boot.  If I reset or shut down I have to wait another 4 or 5 hours to get system to start up. I have window 10 64 bit system with 8 GB memory. I have tried cleaning memory and remove every device except basic system I suspect it might be bios problem but no upgrade on website not sure even if it is bios problem just guessing.

@potegg20 -- my guess about your "intermittent" problem is that the motherboard has a "heat" problem.

When it is "warm", the motherboard flexes, and "opens" some electronic circuit, to trigger the problem.

After the motherboard has cooled-down, the motherboard "unflexes", to "close" that electronic circuit.

Hi

sorry @itsmyname  but, user @potegg20   have to check this :

Interpreting POST Diagnostic Front Panel LEDs and
Audible Codes
This section covers the front panel LED codes as well as the audible codes that may occur before or
during POST that do not necessarily have an error code or text message associated with them.
WARNING! When the computer is plugged into an AC power source, voltage is always applied to
the system board. To reduce the risk of personal injury from electrical shock and/or hot surfaces, be
sure to disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet and allow the internal system components to
cool before touching.
NOTE: If you see flashing LEDs on a PS/2 keyboard, look for flashing LEDs on the front panel of
the computer and refer to the following table to determine the front panel LED codes.
Recommended actions in the following table are listed in the order in which they should be
performed.
Not all diagnostic lights and audible codes are available on all model

So does it correspond to this @potegg20  ?

Red Power LED flashes five times, once every second,
followed by a two second
pause. Beeps stop after fifth iteration but LEDs continue until problem is solved.

5  Pre-video memory error.

CAUTION: To avoid damage to the DIMMs or the system board, you must unplug the computer power cord before attempting to reseat, install, or remove a DIMM module.
1. Reseat DIMMs.
2. Replace DIMMs one at a time to isolate the faulty module.
3. Replace third-party memory with HP
memory.
4. Replace the system board.

I have done the memory checks but no cigar. I have 4 memory boards for each 8200 computer same result regardless of order. I went to bios and tried disable usb disk boot and usb cd boot and the problem still happens but somewhat less often. Instead of waiting 4 hours it is more like 20 to 40 minutes. Then I have to press start power button 5 or 6 times before I can boot. It cost more for a replacement motherboard then for an entire system with I5 2500 cpu Thats why I came to have 2 8200 computers I bought the 2nd one for about $35 dollars without cpu, memory and hard disk as I already had purchased those in my effort to get my original HP 8200 elite to function.  It is still a major pain to use the computer but I can at least get it to work now without being locked out. I had Windows 7 on both and upgraded to windows 10 it made little difference. One is using I5 2500 cpu the other uses I3 2120 cpu which was on the list of Compatible cpu's from HP website. Thanks for your help I still would like to fInd a solution. I am retired on a budget so I am using 10 year old hardware can't afford new stuff.

OK Thanks for all the advice. I have found a solution which while not completely fixing my problem, I can use my computer normally except if I try to restart then problem reappears. After I disabled all other boot devices in my Bios.. My system stopped timing out. I don't know why this works. But it does. I tried everything else. I've been told that the problem lies in my Bios.

Thanks for trying
