So my pc was artifacting. Idk why but it started doing it. I uninstalled display drivers and installed new ones (during the installation the artifacts also came in which made me curious if those were gpu artifacts) then I tried underclocking which crashed my pc then I tried gpu tests which also resulted in artifacts and crash I also opened some apps and then it artifacted and crashed . My doubt was roughly clear that it was a graphic card problem so I reseated it and to my surprise the pc started beeping. It beeps 6 times and then takes 2 second break then again. Idk what to do now I **bleep**ed up my pc. I also tried updating pcie slot and firmware and bios before reseating the graphic card. None worked so I reseated my graphics card. There was display tho. But I reseated my graphics card just a day ago just to get it checked(which I was unable to as the shop was closed) I reseated it after coming home and to my surprise the beeps were there(even tho they were not there the other times I reseated my gpu) I guess my graphics card is **bleep**ed . You tell me...

@OliverAikuStan,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your issue appears to be a classic case of failing GPU hardware, but the added complication of 6 beep codes after reseating the graphics card is a red flag that should be understood before concluding complete failure.

Summary of Your Observations:

Symptom                                                             Possible Cause
Artifacts during driver installation & app usageGPU VRAM or core failure
Crashes during underclocking and testingPower instability or deeper GPU hardware fault
Beep code: 6 beeps in a loopGPU not detected / failure / corrupted video BIOS
No beeps before GPU reseating, now persistent 6 beepsImproper seating, ESD damage, or worsened card failure

HP 6 Beep Code Meaning:

For most HP desktops, 6 short beeps typically means:

Pre-video graphics card failure
The system cannot initialize the GPU -either because it's not detected (i.e. not seated properly), has failed, or is producing invalid signals during POST. In some cases, it might also point to a more serious motherboard problem.

HP’s official docs list this as:

6 beepsGraphics card or video BIOS failure

Recommended Troubleshooting Steps:

Let’s go through a diagnostic checklist:

Step 1: Reseat Again Carefully:

  • Fully power off the system, unplug power, and discharge static.

  • Remove and reinsert the GPU firmly in the PCIe x16 slot.

  • Check for dust or oxidation on contacts -clean with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

  • Ensure the GPU's power connectors (6/8-pin) are fully inserted.

Step 2: Check with iGPU or Different GPU:

  • If your CPU supports integrated graphics, remove the GPU and boot using the motherboard's video output (HDMI/DP/VGA).

    • If the PC boots, the GPU is likely faulty.

  • Alternatively, test with a known-good GPU in the same slot.

Step 3: Test GPU in Another System:

  • Install the suspected bad GPU in a different desktop. If it beeps or shows artifacts there too, it’s likely toast.

Step 4: Reset CMOS:

  • Clear the BIOS by removing the coin-cell battery for 5–10 minutes or use the CMOS reset jumper.

  • This ensures no corrupted PCIe or GPU settings persist.

Step 5: Power Supply Check:

  • A failing PSU can deliver unstable power, especially under GPU load. If possible, test with a higher-wattage or known-good PSU.

  • Especially relevant if GPU underclocking or tests caused crashing.

Signs Pointing Toward GPU Failure:

  • Artifacts before Windows boots (e.g., during driver install or BIOS splash screen).

  • Crashes even during underclocked conditions.

  • POST beep code after reseating (where it previously worked) is a strong indicator of GPU death -likely worsened by repeated stress or static damage during handling.

Final Thought:

Yes, it does sound like that your graphics card has failed, either due to age, thermal stress, ESD, or inherent hardware fault. The 6 beeps are the system’s way of telling you the GPU is no longer initializing correctly -either electrically (damaged) or logically (corrupt firmware, dead VRAM).

Hey thanks for sharing your thoughts. Update : When I tried m flash override on my pc it showed display but after I restarted the pc the beep came again. In the evening I will try to do a standard bios flash maybe that works. I think my gpu is cooked or smh

@OliverAikuStan,

Unfortunately, I think that you are probably correct: often, graphics cards are sort of the weakest link in a gaming system...

Can the beep problem be solved by flashing bios. I just want the beeps to go..

@OliverAikuStan,

If by 'flashing BIOS' you mean to update your BIOS to the latest available version, that may indeed resolve the beeps, but we wouldn't know until you tried.
