The error above occurs when starting this AIO 24. I eventually solved it as suggested in this forum by using the right PSU, I was given the wrong PSU by the user! This computer needs 90 Watts not 65 Watts.

However I wasted a lot of time dismantling the whole thing & reseating every component. Any ideas anyone why the error messg is so vague? If it mentioned "Power" or "PSU" it would be more helpful. If a laptop has insufficient power we get a battery-related messg, not five cycles of irritatingly loud beeping like the world has caved n on your computer.

Sorry I omitted something, the user has two AIOs, 22 inch & 24 inch. the smaller has a 65 Watt PSU the larger a 90 Watt PSU. What surprises me is that the plugs/sockets on both computers are the same size. Surely they should be made different to avoid this? If they plugged the 90 Watt PSU into the 65 Watt computer is that not courting disaster?

Hi @fastrack-1966,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP All-in-One (AIO) computer is emitting loud beeping sounds and displaying an error message that says "Unsupported adapter installed." This error message typically indicates a hardware-related issue, specifically related to the power adapter you're using with your AIO computer.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

  • Check the Power Adapter: Make sure you're using the correct power adapter that came with your HP AIO computer. Using an incompatible or unsupported adapter can trigger this error. Look for any visible damage on the power adapter and its connectors.
  • Power Off and On: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can help resolve temporary issues. Turn off the computer, disconnect the power adapter, and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the power adapter and turn on the computer again.
  • BIOS Update: Outdated BIOS (system firmware) can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Check HP's official website for any available BIOS updates for your specific AIO model. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS.
  • Hardware Inspection: If you're comfortable doing so, open up your AIO computer and inspect the internal components. Make sure all connections are secure, including RAM, storage drives, and any expansion cards. Additionally, check the power connector on the motherboard to ensure it's properly connected.
  • Test with Different Adapter: If possible, try using a different power adapter that's compatible with your AIO computer. This will help determine if the issue is with the adapter itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your thorough reply but at the top of my 1st message......................

"I eventually solved it as suggested in this forum by using the right PSU"

My query was why is there not a different size plug for a differnet wattage PSU and why is the error messg so vague not mentioning power or PSU?
