OMEN 25L Desktop - GT12-0157c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP has recently released BIOS Revision F28, which was subsequently updated by a Microsoft Windows 10 Pro security update. Unfortunately, this update has caused an issue where the PC enters a continuous loop on BIOS Recovery after a restart, accompanied by 8 beeps. It appears that the BIOS Firmware (Update) has become corrupted, preventing the system from starting properly.

It's worth noting that no new hardware was added or altered; the problem surfaced immediately after the installation of the Microsoft Security Update. To resolve this issue, we urgently require a new firmware update or the ability to revert to a previous version of the BIOS.

We kindly request HP Support to address and rectify this issue promptly. Additionally, we seek clarification on why the BIOS is being updated directly from Microsoft, as this seems to be a contributing factor to the problem.

Hi @AlejandroRUS

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Opinions or troubleshooting suggestions in this response are provided independently. I am not employed by: HP, Inc. or the HP Forum.

There seems to be a MB SSID problem with your PC. This HP Site states you have the Moria3 MB. The Moria3 MB SSID is 86D3 per this HP Site. HP is only offering MB SSID 87C3 BIOS updates for your PC. I don't know if the MB SSID mismatch is a typo or the corrupted BIOS problem relates to the incorrect MB SSID BIOS update.

You would have to contact HP Support to sort this issue, if it is an issue.

The F.28 BIOS update for MB SSID 87C3 can be downloaded from this HP Site on a different PC if you want to try this fix. Run this BIOS update on the host PC to create a USB BIOS recovery flash drive.

Connect this USB drive to the GT12. Start the PC. The system should auto recover the BIOS if 87C3 is the correct MB SSID.

Check this HP video for details.

You can stop HP firmware updates offered by Windows as follows:

Enter Advanced System Settings in Search. Select the appropriate search result. Select the Hardware tab within the System Properties dialog box..

Select Device Installation Settings. Select No. Save changes.

Select Apply then OK.

Thank you for your reply,

the BIOS Firmware update was done as ROM Family SSID 87C3, however, the BIOS Recovery is not able to fix the issue and it won't allow you to install an old version or a prior one.

after the BIOS fully loads the new firmware, it goes back to 8 beeps... all this was done after Microsoft Security Update made the changes on the PC.

The motherboard was working just fine, and I never had any problem, this is a new computer 2020.

Do you have any knowledge for the CMOS Pin... ? or FDO or BBR ?

Hi @AlejandroRUS

My pleasure.

This is the first time I have seen a HP USB BIOS recovery drive fail to fix a corrupted BIOS.

I am not familiar with FDO or BBR. You can pull the CR2032 MB battery to reset CMOS, I don't know if your MB has a CMOS reset jumper. Can't say resetting CMOS would work since the BIOS is corrupted; there seems to be nothing to reset.

I would contact HP Support per my previous link, especially if your PC is in extended warranty. HP should fix the BIOS or replace the MB.

Other options:

- Find a local PC tech who can program the BIOS outside of the operating system with sp149992.exe. The tech could try the Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility or use a serial USB BIOS programmer.

- Replace the MB.

Regards
