Hi @5CD2105L1V,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop screen remains black after powering on, it can be caused by a variety of issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

1. Check Power and Battery

  1. Ensure Power Supply: Confirm that the laptop is properly connected to a power source. If you’re using a laptop battery, make sure it is charged or try connecting to a power adapter.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset:
    • Power Off: Hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds to turn off the laptop completely.
    • Unplug and Remove Battery: Disconnect the power adapter and, if possible, remove the battery.
    • Wait: Leave it disconnected for about 30 seconds.
    • Reconnect and Power On: Reinsert the battery, connect the power adapter, and try turning on the laptop again.

2. Check for External Display

  1. Connect to an External Monitor: If you have an external monitor or TV, connect your laptop to it using an HDMI or VGA cable.
  2. Toggle Display Mode: On many laptops, you can switch between internal and external displays by pressing a function key (usually marked with a monitor icon, like F4, F5, or F8). Hold the Fn key and press the corresponding function key.

3. Inspect the Laptop Screen

  1. Check Brightness: Ensure the screen brightness is not set to the lowest setting. Use the brightness function keys on your laptop to adjust the brightness.
  2. Look for Flickers: Observe if there’s any flickering or faint image on the screen, which might indicate a backlight issue.

4. Reset RAM Modules

  1. Power Off and Unplug: Ensure the laptop is powered off and disconnected from the power source.
  2. Access RAM: Open the laptop’s access panel (this usually requires removing screws). If you’re not comfortable doing this, consider seeking professional help.
  3. Reseat RAM: Carefully remove and then reinsert the RAM modules to ensure they are properly seated in their slots.

5. Listen for Beep Codes

  1. Power On and Listen: When you power on the laptop, listen for any beep codes. Beep codes can indicate hardware issues, such as problems with the motherboard or RAM. Refer to your laptop’s manual or manufacturer’s website for information on beep codes.

6. Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Power On and Interrupt: Turn on the laptop and repeatedly press the F8 or Shift + F8 key to access Safe Mode. This might take several attempts.
  2. Select Safe Mode: If you can boot into Safe Mode, you might be able to troubleshoot or update drivers.

7. Perform BIOS/UEFI Reset

  1. Access BIOS/UEFI: Restart the laptop and press the appropriate key to enter BIOS/UEFI settings (often F2, F10, Esc, or Del).
  2. Reset to Defaults: In BIOS/UEFI, look for an option to reset to default settings. Save and exit, then try rebooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
