My friend's son hit the power button on the power strip when the computer was updating the bios and it no longer boots into windows. It pops up a screen that it is trying to recover bios files or something like that, then after a few moments, it has a screen "The bios recovery files cannot be found or the files are corrupted. ... download the USB recovery drive and restart the PC. ..."
There were 5 available bios for download. I created 2 bios recovery thumb drives from the 2 latest bios on the list, I inserted the drive, and it kept doing the same thing. I tried the older of the 2 bios. I don't remember if I tried the newest or not. I was concerned about the SSID because I read you couldn't install an older bios after a newer one and didn't understand the implication of the SSID number listed.
Questions:
1. The bios download list on HP's website for this computer shows different dates and SSID numbers.
1a. Do the different SSID numbers matter? 1b. Which is the best to apply, just go to the latest?
2. I tried to boot with one of the BIOS recovery drives inserted, but the computer just kept going through those 2 screens. We tried power-on then different function keys each time like f8 f9 f10 f2, mostly along with holding down the fn key in the lower left corner of the keyboard. We tried powering on and esc to try to get to a menu. We tried different ways to power on and esc, holding, pressing after power on, pressing multiple times after power on. We can't get to the menu. I tried restarting and hitting windows-b. Nothing made the computer act any differently.
3. Would it help to take the computer apart and clear the CMOS RAM to get the computer to load the BIOS recovery drive?
What am I missing? This shouldn't be rocket science!
Thanks in advance if you can answer ANY of the questions!

Hi:
According to the parts list for your PC, it has a Micaela motherboard.
HP Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, Micaela | HP® Support
The motherboard has a SSID of 8923.
This is the latest BIOS update HP has for that motherboard SSID, and yes it matters.
You use the BIOS update for the SSID your PC's motherboard has.
HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cb0000a (3B5H6AV) Software and Driver Details
It would not help to take the PC apart.
Here's how to make a BIOS recovery drive:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcBMa5q_9UI&t=2s
Here is how to use the BIOS recovery flash drive after it has been successfully created:
After you create the USB BIOS recovery drive, follow the instructions that show up after the USB recovery drive has been successfully created.
1. Power off the device to be recovered.
2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
3. Power on the device.
4. The device may reboot up to 3 times with indicator lights on the keyboard flashing, or the screen appearing blank for short time.
Hopefully, that will fix the problem for you.
That would be the only suggestion I can offer.
