Hi @ChuckL44

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the startup message you are seeing: Boot Device Not Found – Please install an operating system on your hard disk. This indicates that the computer is unable to detect a valid operating system on the hard drive.

Let us go through recommended steps to restore functionality:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the computer completely.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect only the power adapter and turn the computer back on.

Step 2: Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  1. Turn on the computer and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  2. Press F2 to open System Diagnostics.
  3. Select Component Tests > Hard Drive and run the Quick Test followed by the Extensive Test.
  4. If the hard drive passes, continue to the next step. If it fails, note the error code.

Step 3: Verify BIOS Settings

  1. Restart the computer and press Esc repeatedly, then press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. In BIOS, confirm that the hard drive is detected under Storage.
  3. Press F9 to load BIOS defaults, then press F10 to save and exit.

Step 4: Use HP App – Diagnose & Fix

  1. If Windows is accessible, open the HP App from the Start menu.
  2. Select Diagnose & Fix to automatically check and repair startup issues.

Step 5: Perform System Recovery If diagnostics confirm the hard drive is healthy but no operating system is found:

  1. Use the HP Recovery Partition (press F11 at startup) to reinstall Windows.
  2. If F11 does not work, use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool from another computer to create recovery media and reinstall the operating system.

For complete guidance, please refer to HP’s official support article:
HP PCs – Boot Device Not Found Error (3F0)

These steps will help restore the computer to normal operation.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
