HP All-in-One - 24-dd0010

Hello,

I have an All-In-One 24-dd0010 computer. Last night, there was a windows update that had HP Firmware. Upon restarting, the computer started to perform BIOS update. However when completed, I am getting HP Bios update screen which has a timer of 15 seconds and displays "The System BIOS update failed. Unable to open BIOS Image file" message. It keeps repeating and stuck in a loop and I am unable to get past it.

I have tried holding the Windows Key + B, and it does appear to try to reinstall BIOS, however same result and message at the end. Very frustrating as this was caused by Windows update.

To add insult to injury, there is absolutely nothing on HP site for any drivers or BIOS files.

If someone can shine a little light on the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @javaguy216

Your PC has the MonkD MB.

Check this Link and embedded links in my response at this Forum site to see what has happened.

Never got a reply from the OP. So I don't know if the individual fixed the problem.

@Bill_To,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have been doing some reading and so far have not come across a viable solution. It seems there is possible a BIOS file for MonkD 86F3, not 86F2, thus will not work for this issue.

I have tried calling HP support, and since it is out of warranty, was transferred to OOW support, which of course cannot resolve the issue since you cannot boot to OS.  It seems at this point it is bricked and I may be out of options. I do not believe there is a way to remove the update or to prevent it from trying to install upon turning on the computer.

Are you aware of any ways to remove the BIOS update completely or board is hosed? Is there a way to disable BIOS updates so they do not come in through Windows update?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @javaguy216

My pleasure.

I wish I could give you encouraging news but I have none. I have not personally worked on this product so I don't know if you can recover the HP factory BIOS .bin and .sig files in the EFI System Partition. There is a good chance these files don't exist if HP uses pre-programmed BIOS chips (usual procedure) when manufacturing the MB.

You would have to examine the EFI System Partition using admin command prompt or power shell. You will find the incorrect Windows Update BIOS files in this partition.

I would think you will have to replace the MB if you cannot get your hands on the correct BIOS file for this MB.

This means you would have to talk to HP Support or check eBay for a replacement MB. HP may reprogram the BIOS, replace the BIOS chip, or replace the MB.

You can stop future HP firmware updates from Windows Update as follows:

Enter Advanced System Settings in Search. Select the Hardware tab.

Select Device Installation Settings. Select No. Save changes.

Select Apply then OK.
