Desktop Envy 750-287c.  "Boot device not found - please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk 3F0"   I use F10 to go into BIOS settings. In Boot Order, both UEFI and Legacy are disabled. I enable UEFI, Save and restart. Same error. F10 into BIOS again, UEFI and Legacy both disabled! BIOS is not remembering the change. Battery? No - I put in new CR2032.  Date/Time is maintained ok. Tried enabling Legacy - same error, the change is not remembered. The error panel offers F2 into Diagnostics. Hard disk - an SSD - checks out ok. Corrupted BIOS? It is A0.16 for system board 2B47. Firmware diagnostics has option to flash an update. I download latest from HP, but it is a program to be run from Windows! How do I get the BIOS flash files that the firmware updater is looking for? Since I cannot set a Boot order, I cannot boot into any recovery media.  Any ideas on what the problem really is? Motherboard failure?

Not explained, but solved.  Decided to go ahead and run the Bios Update SoftPaq on another PC - despite its popups implying that it would update that machine's Bios.  (Looked at the BAT file so see that it would not.)  Made a Bios Update USB that the firmware updater on my PC recognized.  That successfully updated to A0.20, and the PC booted up nicely into Windows.  Did some backing up, then shutdown and rebooted with F10 into the firmware.  Now the Secure Boot is ticked the enable Legacy, and the Boot Order shows the Disk, CD, and USB as choices in both UEFI and Legacy mode.  Rebooted OK.  So perhaps the underlying problem was corruption in the Bios.

I have a very similar question, although my pc is an Envy 750-150na with a bios version A0.13 on a 2B47 system board.

The same fault in that it states boot device not found 3F0 and all check out as OK when doing  drive and memory tests in UEFI diagnostics.

So, assuming it's a boot / startup problem, downloaded from microsoft and made a bootable USB to see if it could do a startup repair.

But I'm not getting anywhere with the bios saving the legacy boot order setting, it always shows as both EUFI and Legacy boot disabled. no matter how many times I save and exit, it's back to both disabled when I go back in the bios.

My UEFI (10.8.1.0) doesn't have any option to update anything (nor in the bios itself) so, I appear to be in a loop going nowhere.

Strangely, in the UEFI, I can test the USB port I am using (one at the rear) and it passes!

I don't really follow how to make a bios update USB though, but I guess it wouldn't help anyway with no update option.

Any ideas would be welcome...
