Product: HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC (275W6AV)
Hello,
I am trying to install a new operating system on my HP laptop but am completely blocked because Secure Boot is enabled, and the system requires a BIOS administrator password to make changes.
Here is the exact history of the device, which makes the situation tricky:
- I originally purchased the device second-hand about 3 years ago.
- Approximately 18 months ago, an IC blew up on the original board, and I had to replace the motherboard.
- The replacement motherboard has a BIOS password lock on it that I do not know.
Because the hardware has changed from the original factory build, my original proof of purchase doesn't align with the new motherboard parameters. I have been endlessly trying to reach HP official support to explain this situation, verify my ownership of the unit, and get assistance with resetting the password, but I cannot seem to reach a live agent or find a straightforward path forward.
Device Details:
- Product Name: HP Zbook Firefly 14 G8 Gen 11
- Operating System: Trying to boot into Ubuntu Linux
Could anyone guide me on the correct process to handle a BIOS password reset when the motherboard has been replaced? Is there a specific channel at HP that handles hardware-changed ownership verification, or a way to get a factory override for a replacement board?
Thank you!

Unfortunately, for problem with passwords you will need to contact an HP agent.
