BIOS update failed - Desktop 790-0077c

Hello,

My desktop 790-0077c has a black screen after the BIOS updated through the HP Support Assistance.

I attempted to update BIOS from the version F.41 to F.50 and could not roll back to the previous version.

I tried all methods discussed in the HP forum, such as pressing keys of Windows-B, V, F2, F10 and so on. It doesn't work at all. HP software download center for my desktop only has the BIOS file F.50 revA (SP147317.exe) and has no previous version.

Can HP customer service give me the previous BIOS file with the version F.41? or anyone have any other good suggestions?

Hi:

If you click to expand the Revision History section on the F.50 BIOS download page, you will be able to download all of the available previous versions.

What I recommend you do is to create a USB BIOS recovery drive starting from F.50 and work your way back.

I don't see anything in the release notes that state you can't roll back to a previous version from F.50, F.49. etc., to F.41.

Here is how to use the BIOS recovery flash drive after it has been successfully created:

After you create the USB BIOS recovery drive, follow the instructions that show up after the USB recovery drive has been successfully created.

1. Power off the device to be recovered.

2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.

3. Power on the device.

4. The device may reboot up to 3 times with indicator lights on the keyboard flashing, or the screen appearing blank for short time.

Hopefully, that will fix the problem for you.

That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Besides this, I'd like to share the other problem of "bios update failed unable to open bios signature file" after my BIOS update. I found the resolution is to press F10 and to disable "security boot" from other articles. My desktop is working now. 🙂
