i am trying to figure out what is wrong with my computer when i tries to boot up. I have changed the CMOS battery and have tried multiple different ways to restart and used different keyboards one being wired and one wireless and I am starting to get really frustrated  IMG_0425.jpeg

Welcome to the HP Forum.

 

Your PC can Power On Self Test. That's a good sign. Your PC's screen image included with your Forum post suggests the BIOS should be okay.

 

I'm thinking the PC might have a system drive problem.

 

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run a component test to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

 

I would not be surprised if the system disk has failed or hardware diagnostics may not detect this disk if it is totally cooked.

 

Get back to the Forum and post your PC's hardware test results.

 

You may have to replace the primary boot/system disk and reinstall the HP operating system image.

So I did that and it did go to a different screen that allowed me to run the tests. So it now says that the boot device is not found. About 3 months ago or so I had to take my computer in to be worked on because it was making noise and felt like it was overheating. Well turns out there were spiders in there and they had made webs all over the inside of my desktop. The place I took it to cleaned it out and put in a solid state hard drive which worked for a while but on occasion would give me a screen that would say boot device is not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. I would restart my computer and it would be fine. Now this is happening and I still have my old hard drive but I would rather not put that back in because the computer runs better this way except when this happens.

Did the tech install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD or a M.2 PCIe NVME drive?

 

The 2.5 inch SATA SSD is the larger drive in the following image:

Both drives should last a long time unless you got a faulty drive. I have SATA SSDs purchased in 2015 that still work great.

 

I also have a few NVME drives purchased in 2016 and 2017 that work good.

 

Check and reseat: the data and power connections to the SATA SSD. You could also remove the M.2 SSD. Then reinstall it in the MB M.2 socket to see if this helps.

Thanks for the images.

 

The SATA power cable is connected to the 2.5 inch SATA drive.

 

You need to connect the SATA data cable to the SSD.

 

Look for a loose cable which is connected to the MB. Connect the other end of this cable into the SATA SSD.

 

The SATA data connection on the SSD is right next to the SATA power cable connection.

 

Both cable connectors are keyed and only plug in one way.

I am not seeing any loose cables other than the one that I am holding ing in the picture and I am not sure where to place it in my computer/motherboard

Thanks for the additional images.

 

The cable you are holding in the second image appears to be an additional daisy chained SATA power connector.

 

In your first image there are unoccupied: blue and white MB SATA data headers immediately to the right and below the CPU fan.

 

A SATA data cable should be going from the blue MB SATA data header to the SSD.

 

I am confused as to how your PC would have loaded Windows at any point in time without the SATA data cable connection.

 

You may have a different boot drive problem. There is no way the dangling SSD would be a boot disk without the SATA data cable connection.

 

The dangling SATA drive should have been installed in the HP provided drive cage.

 

It looks like you need a SATA data cable if you can't find one in the case.

 

HP usually includes a spare SATA data cable so you can add a SATA drive to the PC.

 

Buy a standard SATA data cable at Amazon or Newegg,

I can't see the cable connector using the view you are providing.

 

A SATA cable has an "L" shaped connector which connects to an "L shaped SSD connector (male to female).

 

The MB SATA data headers are empty. You need a cable from the MB to the SSD.
