HP Omen 880-160se
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, BIOS upgrade was interrupted and now I have 8 beeps and a message that says "bois curruption has been detected. BIOS Recovery will begin automatically when you restart you PC. etc." but the PC keeps restarting and showing this same message, beeping 8 times and nothing happens.

I tried Windows button + B, ESC, DEL, F2, F10, F11 - nothing works. Removed the battery and messed with CMOS jumpers - no result. Downloaded BIOS onto a USB, tried that - nothing.

Looking for some miracle advices here, really don't want to replace the motherboard 😞

Hi @Nusha

Download sp143413.exe on a different PC. Run this executable.

You should get an option to create a USB BIOS recovery stick. I have done this with success.

I cannot verify any further, I don't have your PC, but I was able to create a USB BIOS recovery drive.

Boot to this USB recovery drive on your 880 if possible. Let the PC do its thing.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. I have done this with no success. Maybe I'm not doing it right? Are there any buttons combos I need to press for it to run or reset CMOS before doing it?

UPD: tried again, several different ways. Didn't work.

After resetting CMOS though it turns on, runs for 15-20 sec, then restarts again for 5 sec, then restarts again and then goes back to beeping 8 times and showing the "corrupted BIOS message" etc and goes into this loop again.

I'm not sure if it is helpful for anyone but that's what it does.

Is there no hope?

HI @Nusha

My pleasure.

It is my understanding the USB BIOS recovery drive should fix the BIOS without any additional user intervention other than connecting the USB drive to the PC and starting the PC.

The following is an excerpt from a different Forum thread describing the recovery operation (credit to @Paul_Tikkanen)

"Here is how to use the BIOS recovery flash drive after it has been successfully created:

After you create the USB BIOS recovery drive, follow the instructions that show up after the USB recovery drive has been successfully created.

1. Power off the device to be recovered.

2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.

3. Power on the device.

4. The device may reboot up to 3 times with indicator lights on the keyboard flashing, or the screen appearing blank for short time."

You may have to contact HP Support if you can't fix the BIOS using a good HP USB BIOS Recovery stick. Your PC is six years old. You may have an additional hardware problem.

Thank you for your advice.

It has been running really well all these years, no issues. I did diagnostics of Memory, CPU, GPU, PSU etc. yesterday - all was fine.

I just wanted to do a clean Windows install to give it to my daughter and it won't work, BIOS won't load for me to run windows from a USB drive. So I decided to update BIOS. there was an update and in the middle of the process the power went off. And here I am 🙂

I'm just wondering if this could have damaged the motherboard and is it possible it needs to be replaced even thought it has power, it def isn't bricked but maybe the BIOS part is so damaged it's beyond recovery? I don't know if this could be the case.

Hi @Nusha

My pleasure.

A loss of power or a power surge when power is restored could damage hardware.

It would be best to have a local PC Tech take a look. A good PC Tech could replace and program the BIOS chip or isolate what additional components may have been damaged.

It is not possible to diagnose hardware failures in a Forum.

I appreciate your help. I'm just asking for additional ideas that's all.

Calling a local tech would be more $$ than replacing the motherboard so I'm just trying to find things to try.

Thank you again.

Hi @Nusha

My pleasure.

Check eBay for the Tampa2 MB, MB SSID 8437 if you want to personally do the MB replacement.
