Hello community. The resolution of the screen is not good in pre windows environment. The characters are very big and when I try to use a bootable USB drive to make a clean install of Windows lots of information don't appear on the screen because of the and I unable to proceed with the installation. Do you know of a way to change the resolution in pre windows environment and mainly when a bootable usb drive is launched. Thank you.

@Mac1010, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
In a pre-Windows environment, such as when accessing the BIOS setup or during a boot from a USB drive, the resolution is often determined by the basic display settings as set in the BIOS rather than any OS-level settings. Here are some steps you can take to possibly improve the screen resolution:
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Start your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI menu by pressing the designated key during boot-up.
- Check for display settings that might allow you to modify resolution or scaling. The options are often limited, but some BIOS/UEFI interfaces may allow adjustments.
Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Ensure that your system’s BIOS/UEFI is up-to-date. Manufacturers occasionally release updates that include enhanced support for display resolutions in the pre-OS environment.
- Visit HP Support to check for any available updates specific to your HP OmniDesk M03-0000i model.
USB Drive Preparation:
- When creating your bootable USB drive, ensure it includes all necessary drivers. Sometimes, if a generic display driver is available, it might help in improving resolution when booting from the USB.
- Use a utility like Windows Media Creation Tool for creating a bootable USB with compatible formats and drivers.
Hardware Compatibility:
- Verify that all hardware components, such as the graphics card and monitor, are correctly connected and support the intended resolution settings.
- Consider connecting a different monitor temporarily to see if the issue persists across different displays, as some monitors may interpret boot settings differently.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Garp_Senchau for your reply.
The mother board has few options and none for display settings which would have allowed to modify resolution or scaling.
I found an update (dated 8 sept.2025) for the BIOS of my desktop on HP site. I successfully proceed with the update. The GOP was updated in the process and its number is now 22.0.1064 (22.0.1057). Sadly it didn't solve the problem. The display resolution in pre-OS environment remains very bad, large part of the page out of the screen.
The 2 bootable usb drives that I tried where one made with Windows Media Creator (for a clean install of windows) and the other by Paragon backup and Recovery. Both have bad resolution.
The BIOS itself has a very bad resolution.
The screen has a 1920x1080 native resolution. I tried with another screen but with the same resolution. Problem persists.
If I plug an old screen (more than 15 years !) with a 1366x768 resolution, miracle (!) the display in BIOS ans bootable USB drives are normal.
How is it possible? The desktop is new but the mother board works well with an old screen and not a newer.
It's not a durable solution. If the old screen went out of service I'm back with the problem.
Thank you again. Hope you will find what I can do to solve completely this problem.

Hello again Garp_senchau.
You suggested "Consider connecting a different monitor temporarily to see if the issue persists across different displays, as some monitors may interpret boot settings differently."
It works to solve the problem.
To recap the display in pre-Windows environment was :
- bad with two 24" screen (one very recent) with 1980x1080 resolution
- good with a 19" screen with 1366x768 resolution.
- good with a friend's 21.5" new sceen with 1980x1080 resolution
Of course we don't have always the opportunity to try several screen.
I want to thank you very much for your help. Really appreciated.
