On bootup... (A7) Me Fw Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed

The problem seemed to come out of nowhere a couple of weeks ago.  Error causes lengthy boot.  I've tried all the tests of the hardware etc., and updated the BIOS to ver 2.53.  I have removed the onboard battery with power off then re-assembled and re-booted, tried some BIOS setting changes all to no avail.  In other words I'm now fresh out of ideas.  I'd rather not have to load Win 10 (the Pro version) if I don't have to, but that's my next step unless someone can help me.  (I don't even know if re-loading Win would get rid of the error.)

Many thanks

Load BIOS defaults
Login into the BIOS by hitting the Delete or F2 key (depending on your motherboard) during your computer's boot process (when you see the BIOS screen pop up).
Navigate to the Tools Tab.
You should see an item called Profile.
Hit the F10 key or select the "Save and Reset" option.
