I installed 2 new sticks of ram. This caused secure boot issues. I was able to get through with a recovery key. Memory speed was at 2133 I set it to 3200 and recommended voltage. Since then I've not been able to get it to post. I've taken out everything I've tried all the win b and v methods. I've left it unplugged with no cmos battery in over night. Ive even jumped pins 1 and 8 on the bio chip. All these methods sometimes do is let the cpu fan ramp a few times then it goes back into steady speed with no change. Ive left it like that for hours and no change. I get the correct amount of beeps when I start it without ram. Is my only recourse now to get another motherboard and move everything over to that?

Hi @TimothyBlum,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What exact RAM model did you install ( speed, timings)?
  • Did the system ever successfully boot with the new RAM at default settings before you changed the speed/voltage?
  • Having you installed the new sticks with older ones, or is it a full replacement?
  • Have you noticed any LED indicators or beep codes beyond the “no RAM” test you mentioned?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps worth trying:

  1. Reset to default memory settings – If possible, reinstall just one new stick and let the BIOS train at its default  (2133 MHz).
  2. Test one stick at a time – This helps rule out a faulty module. Try each stick individually in different slots.
  3. Reseat and inspect slots – Ensure the RAM is firmly seated and check for dust or bent pins in the DIMM slots.
  4. Clear CMOS again – After removing the battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to fully discharge residual power before reinstalling.
  5. Try original RAM – If the system posts with the old RAM, that points to compatibility issues with the new modules rather than the motherboard itself.
  6. Check compatibility list – HP systems often have validated RAM modules. Using unsupported RAM can cause training loops even if the specs look correct.

I hope this helps.

It booted one time with the 4 new sticks in. I should have left it at that with the 2133 speeds. But I restarted then changed the speed to the lowest speed of the 4 sticks 2 are 3733(original sticks) 2 sticks are 3200 which is the speed I set it to. I also changed the voltage to the recommended for the 3200 sticks 1.35v. Since that point on I have not been able to get into the bios. I have done every reset trick I could find online. I have created a bios recovery usb with 2 different usb drives. I have used 6 different ram sticks in all 4 slots. The most I get is the CPU fan ramping 3 times then nothing happens beyond that. When I take the ram out I get the 3 long 2 short which means no ram. But no beeping with ram installed. There is no led indicators no bios reset button. No jumpers I can use to force it to reset.

The original ram was 2x8 hyperx fury ddr4 3733 speed. The new ram is 2x8 corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 3200 speed.

Hi @TimothyBlum,

Thanks for your response.

At this point, the possibilities include:

  • Corrupted BIOS chip that isn’t recovering with standard methods.
  • Motherboard failure in the memory controller or power delivery.
  • CPU or socket issue triggered by unstable RAM settings.

Because you’ve exhausted the typical reset and recovery steps, the next step is to have the hardware professionally inspected.
