Windows restarted my computer with a hp component update. When this restarted it was the bios 3.8. After this restarted a few times I have a blank screen. I took the bios battery out for 30 minutes and that didn't fix this?
Any ideas of how I can get this working??

Hi @albiek1976,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've recently updated your HP ENVY Desktop's BIOS and are now facing a blank screen, it can be concerning. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve this issue.
- Check the Display: Make sure your monitor is powered on and properly connected to the computer. You should also try a different video cable or a different display to rule out any hardware issues.
- Clear CMOS: Removing the BIOS battery is a good first step. However, to ensure the BIOS settings are completely reset, you should also locate the CMOS jumper on your motherboard and reset it. This is usually a three-pin connector, and you will need to move a jumper cap from one position to another as indicated in your motherboard's manual.
- Power Cycle: Completely power off your computer and disconnect it from the power source. Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power. Then, reconnect and power on the computer.
- Boot into BIOS/UEFI: If the computer is still not displaying anything, try accessing the BIOS/UEFI setup. When you power on your computer, repeatedly press the appropriate key to enter BIOS or UEFI. This key is typically displayed on the screen during startup (e.g., F2, F10, or Del).
- Reset BIOS Defaults: Once you're in the BIOS/UEFI, look for an option to reset BIOS settings to default or optimized settings. This can help if the update changed settings that are causing issues.
- BIOS Recovery: Some HP computers have a feature for BIOS recovery. You might need to follow specific instructions from HP for this, as it varies by model. Check the HP support website or your computer's manual.
- BIOS Update Rollback: If the blank screen issue is indeed caused by the BIOS update, you might need to roll back to a previous version of the BIOS. This is usually done through the BIOS/UEFI settings. You would need to have a copy of the previous BIOS version available to perform the rollback.
BIOS updates can be delicate procedures, and if not done correctly or if interrupted, they can lead to issues like the one you're experiencing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I have left the results from your steps below.
Check the Display: After I followed the steps, The screen is still blank screen.
Clear CMOS: I have done these steps. The bios reset has six pins. The jumpers are two pins and a total of 2. 1-2 to 2-3, and the issue remains.
The manual cannot be found online.
Power Cycle: After I followed these steps, The screen is still blank screen.
Boot into BIOS/UEFI: The screen remains blank, and F10 or other keys are used, I am unable to perform this.
Reset BIOS Defaults: The screen remains blank, and unable to do this step
BIOS Recovery: Instructions cannot be found, same as above
BIOS Update Rollback: Nothing was found for this step.
This is the 4th time in about a half year that Windows had version 3.8 BIOS, listed as HP component" update. It ran and no issues happened. Until the latest one. I cannot find a way to stop or block the "HP component" updates that Windows has in their updates. As soon as Windows updates had this completed I received a message on the screen to restart my computer. When restarted the 3.8 Bios update started. I didn't touch anything while this was running the procedure and ended up with a black screen.
I have tried to call HP, and am unable to talk to an agent.
My computer is out of warranty and I am directed to a paid service.
Is there anything else that can be done so I can get the gaming computer to work?
It's only 1 1/2 years old.
Thanks
