HP Recommended

The "Memory Upgrade Information" section on HP Pavilion p7-1423w Desktop PC Product Specifications

states that the motherboard has 2 DIMM slots, and supports a maximum of 16 GB

of PC3-12800 MB/sec (runs at PC3-10600 in this system).

 

Do both sticks have the same number of memory-chips, indicating the same "density" of RAM ?

it seems that they do.

 

So, my guess is a problem with your motherboard.
