Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

HP Touch Smart 300 PC screen is black and the fan runs loud when turned on.   The fan has been surging and running louder from time to time for months now, but the screen has never been a problem before.

@Sadlasaggy

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Step one: Update the BIOS.
Please see HP support document Updating the BIOS (desktops).

Step two: Test the computer

Follow these steps to test the computer.

  1. In safe mode, check if there are any third-party applications that could cause the overheating issue and make the CPU or graphics card work at maximum speed.

  2. In BIOS, check if there are any third-party applications that could cause the overheating issue and make the CPU or graphics card work at maximum speed.

  3. Examine the heat sink. If it is hot, replace the heat sink.

  4. Clean the air vent, and then clean the fan (if possible). Make sure that all vents are clean and cleared of debris.

  5. Close all games and applications that are not in use.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
