HP 24xt All-in-One PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi,

My PC has been on a blue screen loop for 8 hours now. The following screens appear every 2 minutes:

1) HP logo, with "Preparing Automatic Repair"

2) "Windows Defender offline"

3) HP logo

4) Blue Screen, with stop code: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

I was using my PC as usual before it started and decided to restart because it was running a bit slow, and that's when the first blue screen appeared.

In order to fix it, I created a bootable USB disk, but I can't seem to change the booting sequence.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Thanks!

Hello, @Noemie - Greetings!

Thanks for reaching out! I'd glad to be of your assistance 🙂

I understand that your HP AiO is stuck on a blue-screen and you are planning to perform a system recovery using the USB disc.

You can first try using the recovery partition to perform this task.

On most HP PCs, there is a recovery partition on the hard disk drive. This step will help identify how to perform a Recovery from the startup screen (during system boot) OR when unable to log into Windows.

To see the HP Recovery screen:

  1. Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second, until the Choose your keyboard layout screen is displayed.
  2. Select the keyboard layout.
  3. The computer restarts. If the recovery partition on the hard disk drive is functioning correctly, the Choose an Option screen is displayed. Click Troubleshoot.
  4. On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue is not resolved or if you would like to proceed with the USB boot, then follow the steps listed here:  HP PCs - Configuring the boot order in the system BIOS | HP® Support

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hi Dvortex,

Thank you for the elaborate reply. Unfortunately, neither option seems to help.

It looks like my PC fails when it needs to open the recovery screen.

For the solution you detailed below: repeatedly pressing F11 does not enable the  Choose your keyboard layout screen.

For the solution in the URL you provided: everything goes well until step 6, when the recovery manager needs to appear, but doesn't.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

Hello, @Noemie

Thanks for the update 🙂 Let's try the steps below:

1) Connect the USB media.

2) Restart the PC and keep tapping "Esc" key till you get the startup menu.

3) Now press F9 to access the boot menu.

4) Now select the Boot device as USB and press Enter.

5) This should boot from the USB and get you to the Recovery Manager. Follow the on-screen instructions from here.

If you are getting stuck in any of the steps, take a screenshot and attach it to your reply for me to better help you.

Also, without the USB, try to access the Startup menu by pressing the Esc key.

Now, press F11 to access the F11 menu.

Let me know the options that you see here. If you find Troubleshooting / Advance options, go inside the option and check if the recovery option is available.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

Hi @Dvortex,

Thanks for your response! Unfortanetly, it did not resolve the issue.

When the USB media is connected and I press F9 (“Boot Device Options”), the option to access the boot menu is not available. It is however available if I press F10 (“BIOS Setup”), where I can select the boot device as USB and press enter. When I reboot afterwards, there are no changes and the blue screen loop starts again.

When the USB media is disconnected and I press F11 (“System Recovery”) , it automatically selects “System Recovery”, but the blue screen loop starts again.

I do not see an option to select Troubleshooting / Advance options.

Any next steps?

Thanks!

Hello, @Noemie

I'd suggest you run a hard drive test to check any hardware failure with the product. Follow the steps below:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. Select the "Component test" and then select "hard drive" from the list.
  5. Let me know if the test passes or not.

You can also try to perform an extensive system test from the UEFI menu.

If you are unable to perform the said test or if the test fails, then the issue could be with the notebook hardware and would require service. You can contact the HP phone support to setup PC service.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂
