My keyboard (Logi K650) BlueTooth shows a pre-boot screen on my HP TP01-3170nd PC during the boot phase with the message "Keyboard error" in the pre-login screen. The BlueTooth keyboard also does not work in the system BIOS. After that, it simply boots to Windows and the keyboard does work. That is very strange. My BIOS should accept a BlueTooth keyboard, right?
No further error messages, everything works fine. What is wrong here?

Hi @TP01-3170nd,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your Bluetooth keyboard not working in the BIOS and showing a "Keyboard error" message during boot, but functioning correctly once Windows loads, is somewhat common and usually not indicative of a major problem.
Here’s a breakdown of what might be happening and some steps you can take:
BIOS/UEFI Compatibility:
- Bluetooth in BIOS: Generally, BIOS/UEFI does not support Bluetooth keyboards or other peripherals during the boot process. BIOS/UEFI environments usually only recognize wired keyboards for input. This is why you're seeing the "Keyboard error" message and why the Bluetooth keyboard doesn't work in the BIOS.
- Solution: For BIOS/UEFI access, it’s best to use a wired USB keyboard. Once the system boots into Windows, the Bluetooth drivers are loaded, and your Bluetooth keyboard works as expected.
BIOS Settings:
- Check BIOS Settings: Make sure your BIOS settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, settings related to USB ports or legacy USB support can impact how keyboards are detected. Look for settings related to USB legacy support and ensure it’s enabled.
- Update BIOS: Ensure that your BIOS/UEFI is up to date. Sometimes, updates can improve compatibility with various peripherals.
Error Message:
- Pre-Boot Error: The "Keyboard error" message is likely just an indication that the BIOS/UEFI doesn’t recognize the Bluetooth keyboard during the initial boot phase. It’s a standard behavior when using wireless keyboards that are not supported in the pre-boot environment.
Keyboard Functionality in Windows:
- Functionality Confirmation: Since your keyboard works fine once Windows loads, it indicates that the issue is limited to the pre-boot phase and is not a problem with the keyboard itself.
