h8-1280t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need help on how to get a Win 10 boot disk for my old Pavillion. I'm using my replacement computer and apologize if the Categories are not right. As for the product name, I do in fact own the h8-1280t which is the one I'm trying to wipe before I recycle.

Can anyone furnish the link for a Win 10 boot disk?

Thank you

The PC did not come with Windows 10.

It came from HP with Windows 7, and HP no longer sells recovery media for it.

The only place I know of where you can get a recovery kit for your PC would be from this vendor at the link below:

Computer Surgeons - Windows 7 64 Bit (12Na1Mcw601) Recovery Kit C2R42AV For HP Pavilion HPE Desktop ...

You can make your own W10 installation media using the Microsoft Media creation tool from the link below:

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Thank you Paul_Tikkanen for your response.

I was asking about  Win 10 because that's what is on it right now and that's what I was trying to fix. Won't go into detail but I've been searching for a way to wipe the hard drive with no success. You mention Win 7. That's right. I have Win 7 recovery discs that came with the computer.

but they won't run. I put them in the CD Rom and the disc opens and shows the files on it but no .exe. Doesn't work when I leave the disc in the drive and I restart the computer.

Do you know of a way to get the Win 7 recovery to open and run?

BTW I received another hdd (same thing that's in the Pavillion now) but when I connect it, it says no boot disc found. Tried the "solution" suggested on HP community, but nothing works. After running "Media Creation Tool", all I get is error code 0x8008005-0x90018. Everything I tried for a solution to that doesn't work. Can't find any way to get a boot disc file. Even purchased software to "fix the problem" after it scanned the entire computer (took about 20 minutes) I paid my money, activated the program and it said "your 0x8008005-0x90018 problem can't  be fixed.  Nothing works.

You're very welcome.

After you insert the 1st recovery disk in the DVD drive, you have to turn on or restart the PC.

Then you immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu and from there, select the DVD drive and press the Enter key.

Watch the screen for a message...'Attempting to boot from DVD...press any key to continue.'

You can press the Enter key or any key as instructed and the PC should boot from the first recovery disk.

Then it will pause after a while and ask you to insert the second disk and so on.

If the ESC key does nothing, then when you restart the PC immediately tap the F9 key.

Your PC was made around the time HP was transitioning from F9 (boot options), F10 (BIOS setup) to ESC+ F9 or F10.

Thank you for that info. You are the 1st one, after two weeks+ chasing my problem, to give me something positive.

I will follow your instructions then be back here with an update.

Well, I'm back. Guess I need to face reality straight on. Nothing is working Here's a rundown.

Followed your guidance Was able to get Options menu

Scrolled down to SATA and disc 1 started loading - took about 5 minutes. Then asked for supplemental disc, loaded that and it asked if I wanted to backup my files - tried and got this

So, I said to H___. Restore to original factory settings. After that started I got this

That's kinda strange as it's the same hard drive that was in the computer when I got it. It's even stranger when you consider I used those same discs the same year I purchased the computer and nothing has changed.

So, I guess I need to accept the inevitable - that my old hard drive is kaput

Now, let me ask you this. I purchased the identical hard drive and figured I'd use it. When I connected it, then turned the computer on, this is what I got

I've tried to find a file for a boot disc to no avail. Even went to MS and downloaded "Media Creation Tool 22h2" . Made multiple posts on how to make a boot disk with no success.

Do you have any ideas? Do I return the hard drive i just bought or is it viable?

Appreciate your interest and time. Thank you very much.

Sorry that nothing is working for you.

Here are the step-by-step instructions to install W10 using the USB installation media created from the media creation tool:

How to Download and Install Windows 10 from USB Flash Drive Step-By-Step (youtube.com)

I would try this on the original hard drive if it has not failed.  Then you can return the one you bought.

The reason you got the message 'No boot disk has been detected' is because you don't have an operating system on it.

You know how to boot from the USB flash drive...ESC, F9>select the USB flash drive and press the Enter key.

You will be asked to select the version of W10 you want to install.

Select W10 Home 64 bit since that is what you upgraded to.

The video author indicates you need a product key, etc.  Not so because you had been running W10 on the PC before.

Then when you get to the screen that asks you to enter the product key, there will be an option to select 'I don't have a product key.'   Select that option.

After W10 has completed installing, since you are going to donate/recycle the PC, when you are at the screen to begin to set up windows, you can press and hold the power button to shut down the PC and the person that uses it next can turn it on and set up the PC with their information.

If you can't get W10 installed, I would remove the drive and give the PC away without one and let it be someone else's problem.

I thank you very much for your time and help.

As you suggested, if this doesn't work I will just put a hammer to the hard drive and recycle the rest.

And, I'll return the one I purchased and save $100+

Again, thank you very much and have a good week.

Thank you for your response.

I do, in fact, have the Win 7 recovery discs. I had some issues with the computer and I filed a complaint with the CEO of HP, Meg Whitman, and she authorized her secretary to send me the set of 6 discs.

Unfortunately they didn't work, so, I decided to remove/destroy the hard drive and will be recycling the rest.

Appreciate your help and concern.

P.S. I still have those discs.
