Hi @Sami67,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To install Debian 12 on your Compaq 620 Notebook PC, here's how you can boot from the USB and begin the installation.

Insert the Bootable USB: Make sure your bootable USB with Debian 12 is inserted into your Compaq 620 Notebook PC laptop.

Power On and Press F9: As the laptop starts, repeatedly press the F9 key to open the Boot Device Options menu. This will allow you to select the device you want to boot from.

Select Your USB Device:

  • In the Boot Device Options, you should see a list of bootable devices.
  • Look for something like USB Hard Drive, USB Disk, or the name of your USB stick.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to your USB device and press Enter.

Start Debian Installation: If your USB is properly set up, it will begin loading the Debian 12 installer.

If you don't see the USB listed, try these steps:

Check BIOS Settings: Restart the laptop, and instead of pressing F9, press F10 to enter the BIOS/Setup. In the BIOS:

  • Navigate to the Boot Order or Boot Options section.
  • Ensure that USB boot is enabled and move the USB option to the top of the boot order.
  • Save and exit the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 or following the on-screen prompts).

Check USB Format: Ensure your bootable USB is properly formatted as bootable using software like Rufus or balenaEtcher and that the ISO file was correctly written to the USB.

Once the system boots from the USB, you will be guided through the Debian installation process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
