Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am upgrading my CPU from i3 to i5. There is no video when the i5 processor is installed but in i3 everything works fine. My desktop model is p6660jp. I think I am missing a procedure.

Hi:

If you installed an Intel 1st generation i5 quad core processor, you must use a discrete video card with that.

The onboard Intel graphics adapter only works with the Intel 1st generation dual core processors.

I installed i5760 from i3550. I also installed Grafix card  NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 with Memory Size1024 MB / 128 bit. Does it mean I need to install a higher model graphics card? If so can you suggest what graphics card I should use?

Hello

[start]This is an automatic response
in order to avoid writing the same thing each time

we need the exact model of your computer, and the product number
To find it follow this
for a desktop computer

HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? | HP® Customer Support
and for a laptop
HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support

Give the full name with the product number P / N

this is not a model:
HP Desktop M01-F1xxx
the requested product number must look like this
Product Number: 9EE50AA # ABA
the model corresponding to this number will therefore be
HP Desktop - M01-F1033wb

. I also installed Grafix card NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 with Memory Size1024 MB / 128 bit. Does it mean I need to install a higher model graphics card?

if from the beginning you are connected to your video card, no
it should work without replacing it
so it might be a problem with the processor
bought used, new?
it s this one ?
if yes
it may simply be incompatible

Hi, @antoniouspius

If you had a graphics card installed the quad core processor should have worked if the processor was supported and the graphics card was supported in your HP p6660jp's motherboard, and assuming neither component is defective, and the PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard is OK.

The problem is, I cannot find any specs on your model PC or what model motherboard it came with because HP has pretty much removed all info on PC's older than 10 years of age.

If it comes with the MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard that a lot of the other HP p6xxx PC's came with, then the processor you installed should have worked with a graphics card.

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) | HP® Customer Support (...

Processor upgrade information

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • Intel Core i7-8xx (Lynnfield core)
  • Intel Core i5-7xx (Lynnfield core)
  • Intel Core i5-6xx (Clarkdale core)
  • Intel Core i3-5xx (Clarkdale core)

So, something is wrong somewhere if that is the case.
