HP ProDesk 400 G3 Microtower PC

Computer boots only as far as showing the HP logo. Pressing the esc key for the startup menu has no effect. Have also tried holding the F10 when booting to no avail.

Greetings @Karenby

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I would think the BIOS is having a problem enumerating a component. The PC can't complete the POST phase.

You would have to run the PC in a minimum configuration to test base components.

Powering on the PC in a minimum configuration would be:

1. The CPU

2. One stick of RAM. Try each HP factory stick of RAM, one a t a time, in each memory slot.

2. Use onboard graphics if the factory installed CPU supports this. Your PC's rear MB I/O panel has Display Port out and VGA out.

3. A failing power supply can cause weird symptoms. You can't rule out this component when troubleshooting.

One or more of the above components, including the MB, could have a problem if the PC still cannot POST in a minimum config. One of the disconnected component has a problem if the PC will POST in a base config.

I suggest using a Tech at this point unless you have all of the above replacement components to swap in, one at a time, until you find the bad base component.

Thanks for your detailed reply. I was able to do a hard restart and get back to business. Happy new year!

Greetings @Karenby

My pleasure.

That's great a hardware reset fixed the startup problem.

I thought your PC had a hardware problem given the symptoms you were seeing.

I was afraid as well, thought my SSD had gone TU. Will definitely keep your solution just in case I ever have a similar problem. Thanks again.
