I have NEVER set a password on my system for boot or anything else. But a couple of days ago I started getting a drivelock message when booting.
I did not have a bios password but doing research I found that you could use the bios password as a way to get past the drivelock. So I went into the bios and set a password. Everything is ok, the drive unlocks and all is good.
So I went back into the bios and went to Security > Drivelock to try to clear it. It allowed me to change the drivelock password and turn off drivelock. All was good, or so I thought. I got a message saying drivelock settings could not be changed.
So that is where I am at. I can get past drivelock by using the bios password that I set. But the biggest problem is I have not been in the bios on this system for at least a year. So I am not sure how the hell a drivelock password got set to begin with.
Does anyone have any ideas about 1- How this happened 2- What I can do to disable drivelock?
Thanks for reading
Jim

@JimValley -- What I can do to disable drivelock?
This forum has rules about posting any "work-arounds" for defeating a computer's security.
So, I am not going to make any suggestions to you.
A qualified computer technician may be able to help you.

Ok. I don't understand your position. First of all my question had two parts.
"Does anyone have any ideas about 1- How this happened 2- What I can do to disable drivelock?"
So you are going to completely ignore the first part about how the hell a password magically appeared and drivelock was activated. Asking what I can do to disable drivelock is not asking for a work around.
I have went into my bios several times. Every time I enter my main bios password to get the drive unlocked since I found information that stated that would work. It does. But every time I go into the drivelock section in the bios and try to remove it from the drive, it tells me that the drivelock settings cannot be saved. I have done everything I possibly can but I know that there are usually several ways to do everything on a computer. Asking about other ways of doing it is not "asking for a workaround" as you stated. Just wondering if there was another method that I may not be aware of.
Thank you for not providing any support.....
