My PC has a BIOS password which I don't know and I can't reset it.

I tried removing the CMOS battery (left it off for like an hour), tried removing/moving the jumper and restarting, all to no avail. After removing the CMOS battery the PC is well aware that the clock is off, but there is still a BIOS password in place.

Entering a password 3 times gives me the System Locked screen, but it does not give me an associated code.

How can I reset/bypass the BIOS password?

Hi:

If removing the password jumper did not clear the password, then the stringent security setting was enabled by the person who set the BIOS password.

The stringent security setting prevents the jumper from clearing the P/W, and the only option in that situation is to replace the system board.

This information is outlined in the service manual...chapter 8, page 110.

Stringent security is a mode where there is no physical bypass of the password function. If enabled, removing the password jumper will be ignored.

HP will no longer provide support for clearing BIOS passwords...

d. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to bypass or subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc., or to bypass any safety measures.
