Hi @Slasherxe,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the bios update.
The error message "not enough disk space" when trying to update the BIOS, despite having ample space, can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Check the BIOS Update File Location
Ensure that the BIOS update file is located on the primary drive (usually C:) and not on a secondary partition or external drive.
2. Free Up System Reserved Space
Sometimes, the error refers to the system-reserved partition rather than the main disk space. You can try to free up space on the system-reserved partition:
Use Disk Cleanup:
- Press Windows + R, type cleanmgr, and press Enter.
- Select the system drive (C:) and click OK.
- Click on Clean up system files and select the system drive again.
- Check all the boxes, especially Windows Update Cleanup, and click OK to remove unnecessary files.
Resize System Reserved Partition:
- Use a third-party partition manager tool (like MiniTool Partition Wizard or EaseUS Partition Master) to resize the system-reserved partition. Be cautious and back up your data before making any changes.
3. Check for Windows Updates
Make sure your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates, as some updates might be required for the BIOS update process.
4. Run HP Support Assistant
Use HP Support Assistant to check for and install the BIOS update:
- Download and install HP Support Assistant from the HP website if you don't have it installed.
- Open HP Support Assistant and go to Updates.
- Check for updates and install the BIOS update through the assistant.
5. Clear Temporary Files
Clearing temporary files can sometimes help resolve space issues:
- Press Windows + R, type %temp%, and press Enter.
- Delete all files and folders in the Temp folder.
- Press Windows + R, type temp, and press Enter.
- Delete all files and folders in the Temp folder.
- Press Windows + R, type prefetch, and press Enter.
- Delete all files and folders in the Prefetch folder.
6. Perform BIOS Update in Safe Mode
Sometimes, performing the update in Safe Mode can help:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Boot tab, check Safe boot, and select Minimal.
- Restart your computer, and it will boot into Safe Mode.
- Try running the BIOS update in Safe Mode.
7. Use a Different BIOS Update Method
HP provides different methods for updating the BIOS:
- USB Drive: Create a bootable USB drive with the BIOS update file and perform the update outside of Windows.
- Download the BIOS update file from the HP website.
- Create a bootable USB drive with the update file following HP's instructions.
HP System BIOS Update Utility:
- Download and run the HP System BIOS Update Utility from the HP website.
8. Check Disk for Errors
Run a disk check to ensure there are no errors on your drive:
- Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter.
- Follow the prompts to schedule a disk check and restart your computer.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, you might need to contact HP support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
