Hi @Jared671,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The blinking of Caps Lock + F5, followed by F5 alone, is an indicator that your HP desktop has detected a hardware issue during the Power-On Self-Test (POST). Specifically:

What the Blink Code Means

  • Caps Lock + F5 blinking: HP motherboard signalling a type of hardware error.
  • F5 blinking alone: Often related to memory (RAM) issues, such as a module not being detected or a seating problem.

How to Diagnose & Fix

1. Power Reset the System

  • Unplug the power cable.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect and attempt to boot again.

2. Check and Reseat Memory Modules

  • Open the case safely.
  • Remove all RAM modules.
  • Reinsert the first module firmly into the primary slot.
  • Try booting.
    • If it boots, test modules one at a time to identify a possible bad RAM stick or slot.
    • If no boot, move the tested RAM to another slot and try again.

3. Inspect for Other Hardware Faults

  • Remove any new expansion cards or additional RAM you recently installed.
  • Disconnect non-essential USB devices (printers, storage, etc.).
  • Try booting with CPU, one RAM stick, and nothing else.

4. Clear CMOS (BIOS Reset)

  • If your motherboard has a Clear CMOS jumper or button: use it as per the manual.
  • Alternatively, disconnect power and remove the CMOS battery for 5 minutes, then reinsert.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
