HP Compaq 6200 Pro Base Model Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just pre-question FYI .. This PC came with Win 7 pro and has been upgraded to Win 10 Pro via the ISO (I believe) process. I have no other issues at this time.

I have an internal HD in a (powered) case outside the PC connected via USB. any time I reboot due to updates or whatever, it looks for an OS on that drive and won't boot. I am told I can change the boot sequence but, have no idea how to do so.

Hi:

See the service manual at the link below, chapter 2, page 5 for how to get into and use the F10 setup utility.

Page 9 provides the instructions for how to change the boot order.

Select the primary hard drive to boot first.

Please, shutdown the computer using the power button (press and hold for few seconds until it powers off)
Insert the bootable Windows flash drive
Power the PC back on. 3.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) - like press and begin hitting before .
