HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b214

This morning when I tried to power up my 4 year old HP  Envy All In One desktop PC, it would not turn on. There were 3 long beeps and 4 short beeps but just a black screen. I unplugged the power adapter, held the power button for 15 seconds and the plugged adapter back in. Computer is now working but if issue recurs could I need a new computer and/or power

adapter ?

Hi @birdrad

Welcome back to the Forum.

A 3:4 error code could indicate a problem with one or more of the components listed below:

1. The system board

2. CPU

3. Memory

4. Graphics

5. Or the external power supply

You would have to swap in replacement parts (one at a time) to find the faulty component if the PC cannot Power On Self Test.

I would have a local PC Tech take a look if this happens again and you can't fix the PC using the steps described in your post.

My computer is an All In One desktop( no computer tower) so if issue is something major such as the system board or CPU can it be fixed easily?. Problem developed for no apparent reason. For time being I will leave power on 24/7(usually I shut off computer at night)

Hi @birdrad

My pleasure.

It would be tough to find a used replacement motherboard for your PC if this component is failing. Maybe eBay?

eBay would also probably be the best place to look for a used: CPU or external power supply. Replacing memory should not be a problem.

I suggested using a PC Tech because Techs will usually test the CPU, RAM, and power supply to determine if the MB has failed.

I don't think I would replace the MB if this component has failed unless you can find this part at a reasonable price on eBay.

At some point you will have to restart the PC (Windows updates). You could see this error when doing a restart.

Regards
