HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0067c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is my first post in here. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place but here we go.

By early January 2023 I run windows update and windows offered me to upgrade the bios. I did and it was the worst mistake I have ever done. The computer freezes randomly after the update. The bios version uploaded to my bios was F.57, this is the version that is giving me problems. I test the ram, is ok, I test the ssd is ok. Formated the SSD and windows setup will not progress it freezes at same point. Run Recovery disk and it freezes at same point.

I reconnect the old HD that came with the computer and it boot up windows and I was able to clone the drive to the SSD. Now windows boots but still freezes from time to time randomly. It even freeze while using the old HDD.

I also try to roll back the bios but it gives me the message that it failed because the bios signature file is missing but the signature file is in the same directory as the bios.

I'm very frustrated and the worst part is that I use that computer for work not for gaming. I need help and I don't have the money to go to a computer store to buy a new one.

Not sure if this help when I say it freezes it means it freezes and the only way to unfreeze is to turn the computer off and on. Ctrl Alt Del does not work. Also, when it freezes no blue screen appears, just freezes.

Something is suspicious.  When I looked up your model, 690-0067c,  If found two possibly systems

BeemerBiker_0-1675456410409.png

Looing up the available bios on-line here at HP I see no bios newer than

000a:  F55 August 2022

000i:   same

Possibly, there is an F57 but possibly has  not been uploaded to the web site.  That is unusual but not unheard of.

On some bios upgrades it is not possible to revert back to a previous one.

It is possible the model name, 690-0067c does not accurately describe your system

Can you supply the product ID?

Possibly, with the product ID I might find the correct bios and possibly you might be able to install it.

The software for your system is here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-690-0000a/37730935/mo...

I got that by using your product ID at this location

There are two possible BIOS updates but they are for different ROM IDs.

I do not know of any way to tell which is the correct one (if any is) except by bringing up the bios page and looking through the main page for the ROM ID.  If your bios ROM ID is 8433 then only try to install that one.

Usually, but not always, the system will prevent the wrong bios from being installed.  l do not know where Microsoft got that version 57.  If your system in in warranty then try to return it.

just remembered, that ROM ID is frequently found on the motherboard.

I already tried that bios version the F.55 but when performing the rollback it says signature file missing even if the signature file is in the same directory.

The computer is out of warranty. Im stuck until HP release an updated version higher than F.57 that my computer downloaded via windows update.

Not sure if it will work, but you can try contacting HP tech support and state that the bios installed by the windows update is not compatible with your system and v57 is not even listed and it should not have been released by Microsoft

Possibly tech support can supply some special install that bypasses the rollback

I also recommend you do a cloud restore as your product id 3LA37AA#ABA is fully supported

If you end up following the path that BeemerBiker posted (02-04-2023 06:02 PM), please post. I'm experiencing THE identical issue.

Do not format your HD and run Windows 10 setup to install a fresh installation of Windows 10...I already did and the computer freezes at exactly the same point during the setup not allowing you to install windows.

I also did the second option...cloud recovery using the created USB recovery stick....the setup will freeze as well at the same point not allowing you to install windows.

The only way I was able to boot into windows again was to reconnect the old factory hard drive that came with the PC that already have a copy of installed windows and clone the hard drive back to the SSD that I formated to install a fresh copy of windows.

At this point I do not encourage anyone to install windows from scratch in any form (windows iso disc or recovery media from HP) if you do so you will never going to be able to install windows again unless you get a new bios from HP.

We just need to wait for the bios...the problem is NOT windows or a driver is the Bios.

If its like the HP 285 G3 the F.57 bios showed on HPs site till around a week ago until they removed it and now shows F.55 as the latest bios.
