Hi @Wil60,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Slim Desktop PC is stuck on the spinning circles screen after a Windows update, here are several steps you can try to get your system working again:

1. Force a Hard Reboot

  • Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds until the PC shuts off.
  • Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
  • If it still gets stuck, proceed to the next step.

2. Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

If Windows fails to boot 2–3 times, it should automatically enter WinRE. If not:

  • Force shutdown the PC 3 times in a row during the spinning circle screen.
  • On the 4th boot, it should enter Recovery Mode.

3. Use System Restore

  • In WinRE, go to:
Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore
  • Choose a restore point before the update was installed.

4. Try Startup Repair

  • In the same Advanced Options menu, select Startup Repair.
  • Let Windows attempt to fix the boot issue automatically.

5. Uninstall the Update

If the update caused the issue:

  • Go to: Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Uninstall Updates
  • Choose to uninstall the latest quality update or feature update.

6. Boot into Safe Mode

  • In Advanced Options, go to:
Startup Settings > Restart > Press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  • If it boots, you can uninstall updates or drivers from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
