Keeps flashing trying to configure repair

Hi @Oldgoat86

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand that your computer screen is locked and keeps flashing while attempting to configure or perform a repair. I appreciate you sharing what you've already tried, and it sounds like you've already been working with the system while it repeatedly cycles through this behavior.

To help understand the situation better and provide the most appropriate guidance, could you please share:

  • What is the full HP product model or product number?
  • Is the message specifically saying "Preparing Automatic Repair", "Configuring Repair", or something different?
  • Does the system ever reach the Windows sign-in screen, or does it continuously restart?
  • Did this begin after a Windows update, BIOS update, power interruption, or any recent changes?
  • Are you seeing any error codes or messages on the screen?
  • Have you already tried any other troubleshooting besides restarting the computer?

In the meantime, you may try these basic checks:

Disconnect any external devices connected to the computer, such as:

  • USB drives
  • Printers
  • External monitors
  • Docking stations

Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected and, if possible, leave the notebook connected to power for several minutes before attempting to start it again.

If the screen is continuously flashing, note any messages that appear, even briefly, and share them here. A photo of the screen can also be very helpful.

When the computer powers on, observe whether you see the HP logo normally or if the flashing starts immediately.

Once you provide the HP model and a few more details about the repair message, I'll be in a better position to determine whether this is related to Windows startup, hardware diagnostics, or another issue and guide you accordingly.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
