Computer totally won,t power on one minute and the next minute it power on and I get beeps codes.

My computer won,t power on with the hard rive and optical drive connected, but if I unhook the hard drive and optical drive connection I get 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps. The computer came with windows 10, then a upgraded to windows 11 the day it came out. It messed up in november 2021.  I got as custom made gaming windows 10 for christmas that year, thats not compatible with windows 11. I,ve been trying to fix it because I want get it fixed before 2025 when support for windows 10 end. The hp slimline 290-p0043w only lasted 6 month, I got it at walmart 2020. My custom made cmputer I,m using now it better than hp, but not compatible with windows 11.

A HP Desktop PC 3:2 Power On Self Test (POST) error code points to a memory problem.

Do the following when the PC is off and disconnected from AC power:

Remove all memory modules. Now try each memory module, one at a time, in each memory slot to check for a good POST.

You have a bad memory module when the PC does not POST. You have a good memory module when the PC does a successful POST.

You might have to replace a memory module. You could also have a MB problem or a CPU memory controller problem if the PC does not POST when checking all factory memory modules. Highly unlikely in this situation but nothing is certain in life.

In this case you would have to try additional, known good, memory modules to see what is happening.

I've done that and it still don,t post. I only get beeps codes if a disconnect the hard drive and optical. With the hard drive and optical connected no power.

The PC is dead when drives are connected. That sounds like one or both of those devices are shorting the system or you have some bad data or power cabling to the devices.

The error you get when the drives are disconnected usually points to memory.

So you could have a power supply, or a MB problem, or some other component problem.

Run the PC in a minimum config:

One stick of RAM, CPU, and monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Disconnect all components not required to check for a good POST. Use onboard graphics if you have a discrete graphics card installed in the MB.

I can only guess you have a power supply problem, a MB problem, or a CPU problem if the PC will not POST in a minimum configuration.

You would have to swap in each of these components to find the bad part. I can't say if this option is cost effective at this point.

The decision is up to you.

You could have a local PC Tech troubleshoot the PC to confirm a: PSU, MB, or CPU problem if you want get this PC working again.

Can you computer do beep codes if your power supply is bad?

It is tough to troubleshoot components in a Forum.

The power supply might be failing but sending enough power for some MB functions but not enough power to effect a successful POST (Power ON Self Test).

You would have to try a different power supply if the PC cannot POST using only: one stick of memory, the CPU, and onboard graphics. The above components are the minimum required for the PC to POST and provide video out to the monitor.

I think you said you tried different memory with no change in behavior. So now you would have to try a different power supply, a different CPU, and finally a different MB.

Other wild card variables could be doing some simple things like changing the CR2032 MB battery and maybe the case power button is acting up.

It is impossible to know what component is causing the problem without trying different components.
