Pavilion Elite e9180f
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

When I plug my computer in it attempts to start, the fans begin running but within 10 seconds it shuts down and restarts within a few seconds then repeats the cycle a few more times before the green power supply indicator light goes off and I have to unplug the unit. After a minute I plug the unit back in and attempt to turn the computer on and it repeats the same cycle as before.

Thank you for responding to my issue. I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9180f ( Truckee UL8E motherboard with LGA1366 socket, 6 240-pin DIMM slots, and PCIe slots;Geforce GTS 250 dedicated 6 pin graphics card; and a regulated 460w PSU by Delta Electronics Model DPS-460 DB A HP Pin 5188-2863). However that PSU is not available through HP parts and I've not been able to locate one through internet search. Also I've read that there may be an issue finding a compatible PSU depending on whether the computer uses a standard ATX or a proprietary power supply. I would appreciate any information or recommendations regarding a compatible PSU.

I ordered a new power supply for my computer, however, Researching the power supply issue I was told I could trouble shoot the problem by disconnecting and removing everything but the Motherboard and CPU. After disconnecting everything from the MB,  I reconnected the ATX CPU 4 pin connector on the MB and pluged in the power supply. The green power supply light stayed on. I unplugged the computer and reconnected the 24 pin ATX power connector on the MB and imediately the green power supply light went off. With this result I have to believe the Motherboard bad and the root of my problem. Therefore I am looking to replace the Truckee UL8E motherboard HP part # 594415-001, however, HP does not offer a replacement MB. Can anyone provide information or recommend a compatible MB regarding this matter I would appreciate it, thank you.

I'm not sure.  Remember that the power-supply puts out several different voltage-levels.

If one of those outputs has failed, then maybe the fans will spin, but the motherboard will not be getting any input.

Since you've already ordered a new power-supply, try it, when it arrives.

Your computer's specifications: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01752634

are good:

* quad-core 2.66 Ghz Intel i7 CPU;

* 9 GB RAM -- triple-channel PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) with 6 sockets for RAM (2/2/2 and 1/1/1) up to 4GB per slot;

However, are you still running the original Windows Vista (which will hit its "sunset" in April 2017 -- very soon) ?

If so, any replacement motherboard may possibly NOT have device-drivers for Vista, thus forcing you to upgrade to Windows 7/8/8.1/10.

I have not found a clear picture of the "back" of the computer-tower (where all the external I/O sockets are), to see which motherboards will physically fit.

Obviously, the correct choice for a new motherboard would let you "repurpose" the current RAM & CPU.

Good picture of the back:

It is "good" that the face-plate around the I/O ports is where it is, namely in a "corner".

Thus, almost "any" motherboard (which will come with its own face-plate) can be selected.

Good evening Sir,

I appreciate your response to my issue, thank you. After talking to several local computer repair businesses, (a couple told me they could order a refurbished replacement MB for $150 to $280)  and before I read your post I did find the IPMTB-TK Truckee MB 59441-001 on Ebay for $96.00 from Ascendtech. I spoke with seller's representative regarding the condition (new other) and supposedly they purchased several of these OEM MBs from HP. Hopefully replacing PSU and or MB will correct my issue. Once computer is up and running I plan on retrieving my personal files and I will upgrade Vista to Windows 7.  I've never done any computer repair and need to gather information. Again thank you Sir for your imput.
