When I start my computer, I am prompted to enter my bitlocker recovery key to continue. I enter it and then my screen is the normal booting screen with the Hp logo and spinning circle. However, the computer does not boot and stays on this screen. It stays for an hour and then it comes up with a black screen with the text- 'Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart'. It restarts and then it comes up with the bitlocker screen again. I enter the key again and the same issue that happened before keeps happening

Greetings

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The BitLocker recovery key prompt is normally a BIOS/TPM issue.

But is looks like your PC's system drive might have a problem.

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

Let the Forum know how it goes.

Hello Bill

I have tried running all the component tests and the extensive system tests. They have all passed however the problem is still persisting. Please help if you can.

Thanks

My pleasure.

You would have been in a bad situation if the system drive had failed.

BitLocker is a great security tool but it has a downside. The downside being: if the TPM gets corrupted or reset, or the system disk fails, the system drive then becomes inaccessible.

And BitLocker must be disabled prior to doing a BIOS update.

This means the data on the system drive is gone forever. The BitLocker recovery key no longer unlocks the system drive.

I don't use BitLocker for this reason.

You will have to reinstall Windows. There is a HP Cloud Recovery option if your PC qualifies.

Maybe a different Forum member can assist.

Hello Bill

Thank you for your help. Just before I go, is it possible to install windows in a USB and then use that USB to reinstall windows on my computer?

Thanks

My pleasure.

The two links in my previous response would assist to do a HP factory operating system installation.

You can also create W10 USB installation media Here.

Or W11 installation media can be made at this Site.
