Hi @Blake475,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that your HP computer is not starting properly and is showing the message that it "ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired."

Before we focus on Windows recovery, let's first make sure the hardware is functioning correctly.

Please try running the HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  1. Turn the computer completely off.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Run the following tests:
    • System Fast Test
    • Memory Test
    • Storage/Hard Drive Test

Please let us know:

  • Do all tests pass?
  • Do you receive any Failure ID or error code?
  • Is the storage drive detected by the diagnostics?

If the hardware tests pass, we can move on to the next troubleshooting options, such as Startup Repair, System Restore, or Windows recovery, depending on the exact error you're seeing.

If possible, please also share:

  • The exact HP model or product number.
  • A photo of the error screen.
  • Whether the message appears immediately on startup or after the HP logo.

Once we know the results of the hardware diagnostics, we'll be able to determine the best next steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.

all the tests passed. The message comes up after it says welcome as soon as you start the computer up. Need further troubleshooting.

Hi @Blake475,

Thank you for the update and for confirming that all HP Hardware Diagnostics tests passed.

Since the hardware tests are passing, this is a good indication that the issue is more likely related to Windows rather than a hardware failure.

As the error appears after the Welcome screen and Windows reports that it ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired, I'd recommend trying a System Restore first.

Try System Restore

  1. Turn the PC on.
  2. When Windows begins to load, interrupt the startup by holding the power button until the PC turns off.
  3. Repeat this 2–3 times until you enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  4. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
  5. Choose a restore point from a date before the issue started.
  6. Complete the restore process and allow the PC to restart.

After the restore, check whether Windows starts normally.

If the issue persists, the next step would be to perform a System Recovery:

  1. Go back to Troubleshoot > Recovery Manager (if available) or Reset this PC.
  2. If possible, select the option to keep your files first.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to recover Windows.

Before performing a recovery, please ensure that any important data is backed up if accessible.
